Independent beauty & haircare brands
Product development & sourcing
01 / The brief
A brand’s next chapter.
The imagined brand
Imagine a Netherlands-based independent skincare and haircare brand with an established online shop and selected beauty retail stockists across Western Europe. Its visual identity is understated, with soft neutrals and considered everyday products.
The opportunity
Extend the brand beyond formulas with a travel and gifting collection. The existing cosmetics manufacturer does not cover the full textile and packaging scope, so the team needs a coordinated route from creative direction to supplier-ready specifications.
02 / The collection
The Travel Ritual Collection
Muted sage, warm ecru and ivory connect canvas, terry, satin and paper. The range is designed to work as individual accessories, a travel bundle and a seasonal gift edit.

The Wash Bag
Sage canvas exterior, a zipped closure and a lining to be selected through sampling.
Proposed size: 24 × 15 × 10 cm
The Daily Pouch
Warm ecru canvas and a contrasting sage zip for everyday essentials.
Proposed size: 19 × 12 × 5 cm
The Ritual Band
Ivory cotton-rich terry with an elasticated construction; comfort and fit to be sampled.
Proposed size: 20 × 7 cm laid flat
The Satin Duo
Two sage polyester-satin scrunchies with enclosed elastic.
Proposed outer diameter: 10 cm each
The Gift Presentation
An ivory rigid paperboard box, sage lid and tissue for the seasonal edit.
Final dimensions subject to pack-out trial
Materials and dimensions are preliminary design targets. Formula products are outside the sourcing scope. No production quantities, test results or commercial outcomes are claimed.
03 / The retail possibilities
One family. Different ways to offer it.
Everyday pairing
The Daily Pouch and Satin Duo as an accessible accessory bundle.
Travel ritual
The Wash Bag, Ritual Band and Satin Duo as companions to the brand’s existing travel-size formulas.
Seasonal gift edit
The full accessory family in coordinated packaging, with the final arrangement confirmed through a physical pack-out.
04 / The development approach
What needs to
come together.
A coherent collection needs more than matching colour names. Canvas, satin and paper reflect light differently, while each factory has its own construction methods and minimum order requirements. Sample approvals and packaging decisions need to be coordinated across the range.
How DES would approach the project
Define the brief
Confirm quantities, target landed cost, sales markets, artwork and the desired arrival date. Build a shared specification and approval checklist.
Compare supplier capabilities
Assess bag makers, textile-accessory specialists and packaging suppliers against the same scope, material requirements and commercial terms.
Align the samples
Review dimensions, seams, zips, headband fit and elasticity. Compare colours against physical references and approve decoration separately.
Confirm quality and pack-out
Agree product-specific checks, labels and carton packing. Trial the gift configuration with real samples before finalising the box.
Coordinate production
After written approval, track milestones, arrange agreed inspections and coordinate shipment documentation and handover.
One visual direction. A coordinated development brief across bags, textile accessories and packaging.
